FIRST OFF..
it uses a capacitor, not batteries. Which means it really will never need replacing..ever! a capacitor could literally last you 30 or more years..
the hand crank ones use built in re-chargables that will go for roughly 500 cycles before dying...so when they say "never needs batteries" they are really lying..cause one day it will.
GREAT QUALITY, VERY VERY DURABLE!
solid water resistant no real fricton in the moving mechanism, i honestly cant see this thing wearing out....now as for you? thats a different story...
1. needs to be shaken very rapidly for about 1 minute to get any useable light out of it.(this is after a 3 cycle break in) (could wear you out or maybe annoy you. In a survival situation its not practical because you wouldn't want to be wasting calories having to VIOLENTLY shake this constantly. ALSO..if your one arm is injured..its even more impractical...
2. takes about 3 cycles or more before the capacitor inside really gets used to holding a charge.
3. cannot store energy for long..the stored charge dies within a few days...
The hand crank ones are much more practical, but not made as well honestly..The hand crank ones use cheap nylon gearing, and pilot shafts, no ball bearings at all.
in a pinch for light, this will work fine...BUT...lets hope you NEVER get in that bad of a pinch.
Shaking it for 200 times in a speedy consistant way i was able to get 10 minutes of nice useable light in the darkness.
i think theres better options out there..i hate to give low reviews , i think of the company, the workers and all jobs that could be effected by my giving a low review should it influence others to NOT buy said product..but ..i also have to warn others from wasting money..
