Garrity Industries E300G Power Failure Rechargeable Flashlight
From Garrity

When the Power Goes Out, Light Up the Darkness. It's a standout in the innovative line of Garrity emergency rechargeables, a hand-held flashlight that only uses one outlet, leaving the second one free. At night, a red LED indicates charging and location, so you can find it in the dark. Other than that, it seems like an ordinary flashlight that happens to be plugged into the wall. But when the power fails, look out. The Garrity E3 comes to life, its super bright auto beam illuminates the room for up to 60 minutes of bright, continuous light.

Long term happy customer5
We purchased this flashlight over 5 years ago and are amazed how happy we are with it. It has outlasted every other flashlight we have bought since and is very handy in emergencies. We have it in our kitchen and when the power goes out, it lights up our entire kitchen plus the family room and gives the children comfort when those inevitable Florida thunderstorms knock out the power. We could not find this model when we were last minute Christmas shopping this year and bought two others. They are vastly inferior, the biggest complaint is they do NOT turn on when the power goes out - they only leave on a very hard to see nightlight. I will now know better and buy my next one through Amazon and save the hassle. Keep with a proven product you are happy with! (Consumer class 101).

good but delicate3
This flashlight performs well but one drop and forget it. We have gone through 2 of them and I feel it should be built to withstand a single drop on linoleum. I will change brands this time.

Power out and you're in the dark?4
I run a bed and breakfast and needed power out lights for my insurance. I plugged these in all the rooms and forgot about them. Then the power went out. We live in a remote town and it is DARK. Having the light come on is reassuring. They didn't last very long, about an hour, but good enough to get you set up with candles. We also have cranking flashlights which is good, our power was out for 4 days.

New! Photon Proton - Single-AA Personal Flashlight [Tools: Flashlights]
From L.R.I.

The new Proton from LRI packs 6 high output white LEDs --the same found in the new 2X brighter white Photon II and Freedom Micro-- into a compact handheld light powered by a single AA battery. A seventh red LED provides an optional low power secondary beam. LRI's popular Freedom digital circuitry provides intuitive one-button access to full-range brightness control and safety strobe functions for both the primary and secondary beam. With over 50 lumens of light ouput at full power, the Proton is among the brightest single-AA flashlights on the market. A single AA battery will power the Proton for approximately 1.5 hours at full power or up to 250 hours at reduced brightness.

Proton Pro5
This is a GREAT light.

I use a flashlight daily in my job. I crawl in attics regularly. I first saw this light in Alaska in a store priced at 50.00. It was a bit steep, but after looking at it several times, I decided to buy it for myself. I like the ability to use a single AA Lithium battery instead of the more expensive and harder to find CR123 batteries. Standard AA batteries are fine in a pinch (caution, only about 2 hours of full power use).

I carry this light daily and I have found no other light like it. It is small enough to cary daily, no matter how lightly you dress. I use the Energizer AA Lithium battery in it. I get about 20 hours of use at full power, I seldom use low power. The red light is helpful going into a tree stand early when deer hunting.

I lost my original and thankfully my children got me one for my birthday. I decided to buy a second one just in case (I expect to locate my original one eventually).

When price, size, battery availability, durability, batery life and brightness are considered there are no peers for this light. Buy with cofidence and enjoy it.

Great Flashlight For The Keychain4
I bought this flashlight because I needed one for everyday carry (EDC). I needed a compact, but powerful, flashlight that used AA batteries. The need for AA eliminated the majority of the keychain-type flashlights while the "powerful" attribute knocked out the incandescent Maglites. They simply don't have the same brightness as a power-regulated LED.

This light is great! It might be considered a little long for a keychain light, but if you wear your keychain on a belt loop, it is no problem at all. It comes with a removable belt clip, which I removed. The only downside to removing the belt clip is that the flashlight will then roll. The belt clip stops the flashlight from rolling.

Okay, onto the part you really care about: POWER! The flashlight is very powerful. It is definitely more powerful than my current Inova keychain light. The controls are much better and way more intuitive than the Fenix lights that I own, too. No tapping the button to make power level changes. The red light is also very easy to activate, by holding down the power button instead of clicking it.

Overall, I was very impressed with this light. In fact, my fiancee ended up putting it on her keychain. In a purse, the extra length doesn't matter. It's no longer than the mascara or lip gloss. I will have to order a second one for myself.

Buy This Light5
If you want to know what can be done at a "reasonable" price & with cheap batteries using the best of LED technology and computerized circuitry, buy this light. If you couldn't care less about any of that stuff, buy it anyway.

For years I packed a big 3 D-cell Mag Light around with me. (In other words, I kept one in the car). The big Mags were great in their time and got the whole high-tech flashlight scene going. Plus they could double - in a pinch - as a very serviceable club (well known in military and law enforcement applications). Before continuing, be aware that the Photon Pro makes a very poor club. There is no comparison to the Mag Lights in this regard.

But the narrow beam of light that this little wonder casts - with one LED and one AA battery - is brighter. And the Photon Pro is tiny enough that you can literally ALWAYS have it with you (on your person).

Also its internal circuitry is quite intelligent. The light's single switch allows you to set either the red or white LED at whatever brightness level you want. Or your can select from four different flash modes, including a disco style strobe or even an SOS signal.

Last but not least, it runs on cheap, buy-anywhere AA batteries (I use a rechargeable Li-On in mine) and makes very intelligent use of the available current. Instead of gradually dimming out on you, like most lights, the Photon Pro stays bright until your battery power is just about exhausted. Then it gives you a red halo or corona around the main white beam, announcing that it is time to swap out the battery.

Starting out with a freshly charged Li-0n I have camped for as long as 5 days without having to change the battery (though I always have spares along). My night vision is pretty good for an old guy and I am not afraid of the dark, (meaning that I do not always burn it at full intensity). Even so, this seems like pretty good battery life.

Like I said - buy this light.

good flashlight for about 10 dollars5
i love to use this flashlight,it's small, but it's really bright, and lasts for a very long time with battery use in normal flashlights, buy this if your short on cash, but big on light problems.

Great little flashlight.5
You will not believe how bright this little flashlight will be! I got one for my car and one for my Father-in-law as a gift. He was just as happy with it as I was. The light is comparable to the large 4-cell flashlight in my Husband's vehicle. It was a great price and I would definately purchase again. Highly recommend!!!

Great value!!5
For the low price (I bought it here for $4.99) I was expecting a cheap, plastic product; but this flashlight is actually of good quality. The outer body is constructed of tough aluminum. It comes with a nylon strap and a little nylon 5" belt holster.

The flashlight itself is fairly compact. With batteries, it weighs about 3.8 ounces, and measures 4-3/8" long x 1-3/4" wide at the lens cap. It runs on 3 AAA batteries, which are included.

The light output is excellent. From 1 ft - 2 ft away it appears as bright as sunlight. (no idea what the foot candle is) The beam has a bluish tint. It has an ok distance (maybe 20 feet?) and a very wide spread.

This is a good emergency item to keep in your car. Be careful putting in the batteries though, the entire lens cap assembly comes apart when batteries are replaced. The lens cap also has to be screwed back in tightly, otherwise the battery case will lose its point of contact and the flash light will flicker.

Overall, this is a great product and an amazing value. Highly recommended!

3 Watt CREE LED AA TACTICAL Flashlight 180 Lumen Torch
From LED Wholesalers

PERFORMANCE: This light generates a surprisingly White and Bright beam. We did some comparison tests and found it to out shine most other flashlights built with Cree LEDs which are rated at 180 to 200 lm. This light is in the 180 to 200 lm category. The quality of the Cree chip, the way it is driven and it's deep and wide reflector all take part in this long throwing yet wide moon light. This extra wide and extra deep reflector also shapes a more defined center spot which throws much further than almost all LED tactical. Even after 3 hours! Of constant running on the same set of batteries the spot out shins many 130lm and 160lm single and double RCR123A lights. The higher quality machining of the threads is a real pleasure compared to others of similar price. It has a thicker wall tube and a more meaty wall on the threaded end cap. You will not be experiencing cracked caps and galled threads like other brands. It's built with a genuine CREE 7090 XR-E Super Bright LED proven to be one of the most efficient LEDs in the world. CREE LED allows exceptionally long battery life per set of batteries. We spent extra money on a better switch, which performs smoother and more reliable. ADVANTAGE: Again, like many of our lights you're definitely getting more for your money with this light, compared to similar lights. This is our favorite Full Sized LED Light. The beauty of this solidly built 3 AA battery flashlight design is it's exceptionally long inexpensive battery life. The deep fine knurling has resulted in an exceptional none slip finish. Even the butt cap is knurled for better grip. It's weight, finish and design stays firm in your grip. You will not be fumbling and dropping this one. It contains the firmest, yet smoothest switch, which we are proud to provide. In testing we also noticed it RUNS WAY COOLER due to its greater aluminum surface area.

A good `in-between' choice4
First, let me say that this flashlight is meant to be a `thrower'...i.e. for long range illumination. Because of its very bright center spot, this flashlight is a bit `overkill' for simple jobs around the house (such as changing a fuse, checking the inside of a dark cabinet, etc.). It does, however, have pretty decent `spill' as well (i.e. the area around the center spot), for general area illumination. But if you ARE looking for a `thrower', this flashlight (being reviewed) is a good `in-between' choice. I say `in-between' because I'm going to compare it to 2 other `thrower' units I own. One is a small, but very bright `pocketable-sized' flashlight that gets it's power from two CR123A lithium ion batteries. At about 75-100 yards, that `small/pocketable' lithium ion driven flashlight provides about 80% of the illumination of the flashlight being reviewed on this page. Considering that the `small/pocketable' flashlight is only 20% of the size of the flashlight being reviewed, the slightly less illumination of the `pocketable' flashlight is a small trade-off for it being so small. On the other hand, CR123A batteries can cost about $5 (each) or more, and with the high intensity out-put of that small flashlight, (resulting in a high rate of discharge for the batteries), those $10 worth of lithium ion batteries would only last about an hour in that small flashlight. On the other side of the coin, I have a medium sized, hand-held, 4 C Cell alkaline (non-rechargeable) spotlight that, at 75-100 yards, puts out about 20% more illumination than the flashlight being reviewed (and both units cost about the same). But that 4 C Cell spotlight is (easily), 8 times the size of the flashlight being reviewed here. So, for such a large device, with 4 C Cells, the illumination of that spotlight is not so spectacular. However, the spotlight's main advantage (along with the slightly higher light output), is that the 4 C Cells are rated at 30 hours in duration. That doesn't mean, of course, that you'd get full brightness for all 30 of those hours. From my experience with alkaline battery units, the full brightness lasts for about 33% of the advertised duration. The remainder of the time, the light continues to diminish. (But you'll have to test that for yourself with any flashlight/spotlight unit.) Now for the `in-between' choice as compared to both of the units that I described above: It's the flashlight being reviewed here. It's got a decently long `throw' (as I described above), and a decent light duration (rated by the manufacturer at 3 hours I believe...but again, don't expect the full brightness to last for the 3 hours). And, unlike the small/pocketable flashlight that quickly uses-up expensive CR123A lithium ion batteries, the flashlight being reviewed uses three AA alkalines...which are cheap by any standard. And it's, also, `in-between' again because the flashlight being reviewed has almost 80% of the light capacity at 75-100 yards as compared to the 4 C Cell spotlight, but at 1/8th the size of the 4 C Cell spotlight. My only complaint with the flashlight being reviewed here is that the threads for the battery compartment are a little hard to correctly position in order to thread the end-cap on it correctly...a minor point. And, with most such units today that use a plastic 'carrier' to position and insert the baterries correctly into the unit, it feels as if one small 'slip' (while inserting a battery into the 'carrier'), could break-off a spring that holds each battery in-place in the carrier. But it gnerally is a ruggedly-built flashlight with a side-clicker switch (which I prefer.) And, it's best use would be for camping in the desert. Unlike forest camping with a bunch of tree is your field of view, you have vast open spaces in the desert. That's where this flashlight would come in most handy. So, `all-in-all' it's a good `in-between' choice.

Stanley 369 6-LED Flashlight #95-369
From Stanley Hand Tools

  • Brand: Stanley
  • Model: 95-369

Product Review
As with other LED flashlights, your batteries will last longer in the 369, and the bulbs will give you years of operation before burning out. And LED bulbs are almost indestructible: you'd have to hit them with a hammer in order to break them--and you'd have to get through the shatter-proof polycarbonate lens first. In other words, you can depend on this flashlight to work when you need it.

The 369 is designed to be used with three, six, or nine batteries, depending on your needs. If you wanted to have a flashlight for emergency illumination, for example, you'd use all nine batteries; if you wanted a lightweight flashlight for work, you'd use three. For extra reliability, the 369 has a built-in warning light that lets you know when your batteries are running low.

Like other LED flashlights, this one gives you a much "cleaner" bright spot than conventional incandescent models. Even so, it seems like the light should be brighter, especially considering that you're using up to nine batteries. The light is bright enough to work in most circumstances, however, and the sturdy construction and reliability more than offset this minor complaint.--Josh Dettweiler

Great Light5
No instructions? Oh No! Might as well through it away. The secrets to unlocking the flashlights usefullness is lost forever. lol.

This will be my 2nd 369, since someone had stolen mine at a job I was doing. Those damn punks! lol. Despite the lack of instructions, after a minute of playing with it, you will notice that the only place for batteries is along the legs. Of course, you will have to found out how to twist off those tricky end caps :P Once opened, if you look around the inside of the legs, if you notice a small diagram of on to insert the batteries, if you need it. Theres only some many ways for inserting batteries, now ;)

It's a pretty bright LED, even with all 6 on, but I feel like it could be brighter. The tripod function is great and freed up on hands for crimping 24 guage wires in the dark. The use of AA batteries is another great bonus. Using 9 Energizer 2500mAh AA rechargebles, the 369 last well over 3 months before the red low battery indictator started blinking. It may be brighter even if you use regular akaline batteries.

This flashlight met most of my criteria. I was looking for something that I could recharge, based on LEDs, and pretty bright. Im quite content with it, and just got my 2nd one today.

Neat Design/Concept (get the tripod version)5
According to other reviewer this is not the tripod version. You need that one MaxLife 369 Tripod by Stanley. It looks like a funky torch, but on pressing a button the body becomes a tripod. Which means when trying to change a car wheel, or look into a PC box, you just site it down. Great piece of innovation.

Also some other nice design features, apart from the aesthetics:

1) Each of the three legs can be filled with (3) AA batteries. You only need to fill one leg but each additional leg gives you more run time - nice if you want to save weight or go for mega run time instead.

2) You can change the number of LEDs that are lit simply by repeatidly pressing a button.

I got mine for 29 Euros and already plan that each family (male) member gets one for Christmas.

Bright, long lasting, but a tad flimsy5
I like the 369 because it gives a very clean bright spot of light and I know I can count on it in emergency situations because the batteries last so long. I'm using regular Energizer alkaline batteries and for the two-three months I've used it I haven't needed to change the batteries.

You can use the light as a normal hand held light, or mount it on its built in tripod. This is especially handy when you need to do work in dark places with both hands.

Compared to Mag lites, the quality of the beam is much better, but light is not as heavy duty. For example, I wouldn't recommend this light to a police officer who might need to use the flash light as an improvised baton.

Great light5
Not for General use as it is a bit heavy, but perfect for the trunk or wall mounted in the office for power failures. (remove the top completely and you have a nice area light. Red color is easier to find in the dark.

Best 'Light Around5
Other than it seems to go through bulbs semi-frequently it's a killer light. I've had mine for several years now. It's had acid dumped on it, dropped, and generally abused but still keeps on ticking. Exceptionally bright. Would make one heck of a club. Batteries seem to last a long time. The paint came off part of mine due to the acid but heck it's still going strong. I've purchased a bunch of the mag lights for myself and others including my wife and kid...they're just good strong dependable lights.

Dorcy 41-4275 3AAA 3-Watt Aluminum Flashlight

Super 3-watt LED that generates 75 lumens of light output through a Luxeon LED. Will project a beam of light over 100 feet. The 5-1/2-inch black anodized aluminum meets all the needs of the most demanding enthusiast.

One of the cheaper ways to get a 3-Watt LED3
The best thing about this flashlight is the light output for the price.

The worst thing is it uses 3 AAAs bundled together to get enough voltage for the LED, instead of having a good voltage regulator. As the battery voltage drops, which begins immediately with alkalines, the light output also drops. Independent testing at flashlightreviews dotcom shows it drops to 50% output after only half an hour. Most high-power flashlights in this price range don't maintain full brightness for long, but this one seems especially bad.

If you actually "need" a 3-watt flashlight, you might want to pay more (a lot more, unfortuantely) for something better.

Small but bright5
When I got this flashlight I did not realize just how small it was. Plus, with only one little LED light, I thought this thing just could not put out any light. Boy was I surprised when I turned it on. It is by far the brightest flashlight I have ever owned in such a small package. It shines a bright spot light without any shadows plus a halo of light far beyond the center. The small size fits in my shirt pocket where a regular size flashlight would be a struggle to fit in a large pocket. If you want bright light in a compact size then this is the one.

Great inexpensive flashlight5
I bought this flashlight on a whim when it was on sale. I used it for a week and bought another one. I love it. It's small and easy to carry. The light output far exceeded my expectations. I have 2 rechargeable tacticle flashlights that I paid over $100. The light output isn't as good as those. But This is much easier to carry. I keep one in each of my vehicles with some spare AAA batteries. The light last a long time. I haven't seen the light output drop as the other reviewer did. I use Duracell batteries. For the size, price and quality, I don't think you could find a better light.

cheap, but does the trick for most applications3
The Garrity penlight is very cheap, and comes with batteries, so that it is essentially a quick, disposable penlight. I use it for medical exams, and it does the purpose (shining a light on the eye) well. It is cheap enough to buy in bulk and keep in differenct drawers, exam rooms, medical bag, etc. It is cheaply constructed, and the light is usual penlight incandescent, so it will not hold up to difficult environments, last a long time, or cast a pure white light the way a halogen source would. If you need any of these goals met, choos another light.

Brinkmann 3 Watt L.E.D. Aluminum Flashlight

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #4331 in Home Improvement
  • Brand: Brinkmann
  • Dimensions: 2.00" h x 2.00" w x 10.30" l, 1.00 pounds

Worthless1
I purchased the Brinkmann 3 Watt 2 D cell LED flashlight and it's worthless. It's dimmer than a pocket key ring light that uses 1 AAA cell. I checked the specs and the 3 Watt Lumiled is supposed to have 3.7-3.9 volts and that's what makes it work with a power supply on the bench but the flashlight only has 2 D cells putting out 3 volts. How can they expect it to work with 2 D cells that put out 3 volts? There's almost room in the case for 3 cells that would provide enough voltage to make it work properly but a lot of room in the center of the case is taked up by the switch. Didn't Brinkmann even try this to see if it works before putting it on the market? There are lots of reviews giving this light 5 stars and saying it's brighter than a Maglite but that's not possible. Those reviewers must be shills or employees of Brinkmann. It was just $15 but it's a rippoff, not recommended.

Much brighter than the MagLite LED5
Having both this model Brinkmann LED and also a MagLite 2D LED model, I can say that the Brinkmann is quite a bit brighter than the Maglite. It also shoots a much whiter color and seems to have a longer distance throw. The MagLite tends to have a blueish haze to the color, which to me gets a little annoying after a few minutes. Both lights are very durable with the casing, but overall the Brinkmann is the winner hands down!

IT'S A FLASHLIGHT, A LANTERN, AND A NIGHTLIGHT5
WITH A FLIP OF THE SWITCH THE ENERGIZER WEATHER READY CAN BE USED JUST LIKE A FLASHLIGHT. WITH ANOTHER FLIP OF THE SWITCH IT CAN BE TURNED FLASHLIGHT SIDE DOWN AND USED AS A SMALL LANTERN. WITH ANOTHER FLIP OF THE SWITCH WHILE FLASHLIGHT SIDE DOWN IT CAN BE USED AS AN AMBER NIGHTLIGHT. ANOTHER FLIP OF THE SWITCH TURNS IT OFF AGAIN. A FLEXIBLE STRAP ON THE BOTTOM MAKES IT EASIER TO CARRY OR THE STRAP CAN BE DETACHED ON ONE END TO BE USED AS A CARRYING CORD. THIS DEVICE USES FOUR (HIGH-QUALITY) AA BATTERIES. IT COMES WITH BATTERIES. I LOVE MINE AND CARRY IT FREQUENTLY.

Great flashlight5
I bought one of these and my 5yo adopted it. It has three modes - regular flashlight, bright lantern, and nightlight. It is easy on the batteries despite often being left on all night by my daughter. She can use the switch to change modes easily - it doesn't require a great deal of finger strength, which some other flashlights we own do. I've just ordered a few more to stash around the house for power outages.

Interesting3
It was pretty good at spotting semen around the dormitory, although I must say I am a little uncomfortable using some of the toilets now. I personally thought it would be a little more reveling. Semen was about the only stain we could really see. Very few things seemed to glow with this light. I am not sure why, but it did seem like 385nm would be low enough to spot some of those things, maybe it is too low or too high in wavelength.

Hmmm2
I got it to look for animal urine stains and for that it is useless - wavelength too close to visible light I suspect. It would be nice to know what the wavelength of the LEDs is.

Get something else-maybe a luxeon type1
This item has a mediocre center spot, and almost 'zero' spill (although the 'zero spill' is typicall for a multi-led flashlight.) And, believe it or not, it did come with batteries already inserted. Only the 3 batteries were of two different no-name brands, and they were all different voltages. Once I put in 3 new 'American' batteries, the light got noticeably better. But this flashlight is still for indoor use only. In can't illuminate any object more that 10-15 feet away. And if there is ANY ambient light where you use the flashlight, you won't (likely) even be able to detect it's 'beam'.

WOW!5
Im a retired Police officer from NY, do part time security and love bicycling. I needed a durable light which I could use on my bicycle and quickly take it with me. I also bought the TwoFish Flashlite Holder. I think if you buy this light and holder you'll be very happy. I use it in flash mode and people have told me they thought it was a police car approaching. This light is amazingly bright and durable. I dropped it a couple of time on my tile floors and concrete outside my home. Other then scuff marks the lights still works. It has 4 setting all of which are useful to me (as a biker). I've owed streamlights, kel-lites, mag-lites and sure-fire lights and for the money this is by far the best! The light will also end stand with the button depressed. It will not stand on its cap in the off position but who needs it to? The light will roll but not as quickly or readily as other lights due to the built in notches. On a slight grades in my driveway the light did not roll away. The light can be used as a defensive weapon due to the cut-outs on the head and tail which are nice features. I was able to break up some ice in the cooler with the trail end. Beg, borrow, steal...although this is not a small flashlight it has too many great features to ignore. Now if I could find a quality duty belt basket weave flashlight holder I'd be set! Hope this review helps your decision.

Built like a tank5
I currently own and use the Fenix P1D, PD30, and TA30. The TA30 is a great light, and it is BUILT and it is BRIGHT!!

The best thing to compare it to is a D-cell maglight, but it's really no comparison. This TA30 is a little sleeker, definitely tougher, and unbelievably BRIGHTER. There's no bulb to worry about breaking and the crenelated bezzle is quite aggressive.

The selector switch is an excellent feature and lets you get exactly the mode you desire as soon before ever turning the light on. Tailcap on/off with momentary on and a lockout twist cap to keep the light for switching on inadvertently.

This light is a fantastic light to have around the house or in the car, it will REALLY light the place up! The CR123A batteries are known for a long shelf life, so you shouldn't have to worry about it being dead when you need it.. (Maglites anyone?)

Pros

-BRIGHT!!
-Dependable
-Simple mode selector
-Tailcap switch, momentary on, lockout tailcap
-Crenellated bezzle
-Aluminum Construction, Shock Resistant Design
-Waterproof
-Excellent batteries
-Better than a bulkier D Cell maglite!

Cons

-Too large to carry on your person
-Expensive batteries (CR123A's are an excellent performing and long-lasting battery however)

I will note that if you are interested in a light to carry, either on a belt or pocket, this is NOT the way to go. I'd recommend the PD30, excellent form factor and its just marginally less bright than this TA30.

Very bright flashlight!4
I bought this flashlight for my kid in college's bike. The theory being that with the TwoFish Flashlite Holder they could use it both as a flashlight for walking around campus after dark, or as a bicycle light. It is incredibly bright. However the flash mode is epileptic seizure inducing frequency with a flash speed that makes it even hard to look at the things you are illuminating when you are holding the flashlight, never mind oncoming traffic. I'll probably add a Planet Bike 3044 Blaze 1-Watt LED Headlight for the flash mode and recommend that only the regular modes be used on this one.

The housing is very nicely machined and while its lighter than those maglights, it would be useful as a defensive weapon in addition to being able to temporarily blind anyone coming at you at night.

The other nice thing about this light is the low power mode. You don't think about this much, but if you want to actually read a map or some directions you wrote out, you don't want a super high power flashlight because the light reflected off the paper will blind you! And the lower power mode on this light works well for that.

I bought a bunch of the special batteries, and in bulk cost about $2ea. Which is something else to think about, but for that I get a very very bright light when it's in high power mode. Cost/lumins I think this flashlight is all around winner.
